In April 2017, during the annual New York Auto Show, specialists from Mitsubishi Motors demonstrated an updated version of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport compact crossover, better known in the Russian Federation under the name Mitsubishi ASX. The novelty received a corrected appearance, as well as a number of significant improvements in the cabin, while the technical filling of the crossover remained unchanged, due to the total savings of the new owners (Nissan Motors), who are currently reorganizing their new division.

The good news was that, having updated, the 2018 Mitsubishi ASX returned to the Russian market again, but it is not yet known how the car will be accepted by domestic buyers who managed to look closely and try out Korean and European counterparts.

Exterior and dimensions of Mitsubishi ASX 2018

Note that the restyling carried out benefited Mitsubishi ASX 2018 - the crossover began to look not only more mature and stylish, but also more assertive. The "muzzle" of the car has retained the corporate "X-shaped" style, while the design of the false radiator grille has changed, as well as new vertical strips of LED running lights and fully LED predatory head optics have appeared.

The profile of the car is unchanged and still delights with the presence of muscular wheel arches, elegant embossed side doors and stylish design of alloy wheels.

The lean feed of the crossover received a new bumper, complemented by a stylish pseudo-diffuser, a spectacular chrome trim on the tailgate and new C-shaped fog lights. On the roof of the crossover, as before, it is possible to install roof rails that increase the loading capacity of the car.

External dimensions have not changed:

  • Length - 4.295 m;
  • Width - 1.77 m;
  • Height - 1.625 m.

The length of the wheelbase, which is 2.67 m, and the ground clearance of 195 mm, have also been preserved, which allows the crossover to confidently overcome city obstacles (curbs, railway crossings, "speed bumps") and not to pass on a country road and light off-road terrain.

Note that Alloy Silver has been added to the existing body paint options, so now potential buyers can choose one of six possible colors.

Internal content of the new ASX 2018

The salon of the surviving restyling Mitsubishi ASX received a minimal number of changes, but they were enough to make the interior of the car look stylish and modern again. First of all, the changes affected the finishing materials, which, as the manufacturer notes, have become at least a cut higher. In addition, the center panel now houses a new multimedia center that has a 7 "touchscreen monitor and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The design of the central tunnel has also undergone changes, where a more modern gearshift selector and cup holders are located slightly towards the driver. As before, the driver's seat is represented by a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a strict instrument panel, and three functional twists, well-known from their predecessor, are responsible for controlling the climate system.

The front seats can have both fabric and leather upholstery, but regardless of the finishing materials, they have a good side profile and a sufficient number of adjustments. Between the seats of the first row there is a large and comfortable armrest, inside of which there is a niche for various little things.

The rear sofa is profiled for two riders, but in practice it can accommodate three passengers, however, in this case, one cannot count on a high level of comfort.

As our 2018 Mitsubishi ASX review showed, the trunk volume of a crossover can vary between 384 and 1219 liters, depending on the location of the backrests of the rear sofa. When the rear backrests are lowered, the user can count on a practically level loading area. The manufacturer placed a stowaway and a small repair kit in the trunk underground.

Mitsubishi ASX 2018 - specifications

In the domestic car market, the new Mitsubishi ASX 2018 is offered with two power units using the innovative electronic control system for gas distribution phases MIVEC:

  1. 1.6-liter engine that generates 117 "mares" and 154 Nm of torque, reaching 4000 rpm. With it, acceleration from 0 to 100 requires 11.4 seconds, and the maximum possible speed is 183 km / h. The average fuel consumption of a car is 6.1 liters, which, together with a 63-liter tank, allows you to cover more than 600 km.
  2. 2-liter petrol engine with a capacity of 150 "horses" and 197 Nm of torque available at 4200 rpm. This unit provides a one-and-a-half-ton car with acceleration to a hundred in 11.7 seconds, and also allows it to accelerate to a maximum of 191 km / h. The presence of a more powerful engine has an effect on fuel consumption, which in combined mode is about 7.8 l / 100 km.

The "junior" engine is equipped exclusively with front-wheel drive and a 5-band manual transmission, while the "senior" one is equipped with 4-wheel drive, a variator and a multi-plate clutch.

Mitsubishi ASX is based on the proprietary GS trolley, which involves the use of MacPherson struts on the front and multi-links on the rear axle. A simpler and more comfortable control is provided by the presence of an electric booster, and disc "pancakes" of all wheels (front with ventilation) and a wide range of modern electronic assistants are responsible for deceleration.

Security systems Mitsubishi ASX 2018
